Strong viscosity increase in time of paint in can. This phenomenon is mostly detected during application by curtain coater, but can also appear when mixing the different components (A + B)

| REASON | SOLUTION |
| Loss of solvents, due to a defective closure of the can in origin or due to end-user who, after opening the can, left it open or wrongly closed | Add appropriate thinner while stirring as much as to reach the right viscosity of the product |
| The storage temperature is too low | Get the product to the standard usage Temp (min. 18°- 20°C). For P/E coatings heating must be carried on by bain-marie. |
| Too long between product production and its usage (i.e. expired product) | If after adding thinner and increasing product temperature (see above) no improvements are detected, the product cannot be used anymore |
| For PU 2 component paints expiry date reported on label has been overtaken | No way to use it anymore. The product cannot be retrieved. Every product must be used within the date indicated in label or in TDS. Any attempts to use products through thinner additions always |
| Spoiled hardener (PU paints) | Substitute hardener |
